Ricardo Despradel-Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC-D,LPC) in New York, New Jersey & Massachusetts

I am a Gay cis-male Latino licensed mental health counselor with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field and specializing in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). I provide evidence-based telehealth therapy to adults throughout New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.

My practice is dedicated to helping individuals break free from the cycles of fear, avoidance, compulsions, and self-criticism that often accompany OCD and eating disorders. Whether you are struggling with intrusive thoughts, contamination fears, relationship OCD (ROCD), health anxiety and OCD, body image concerns, restrictive eating, binge eating, or ARFID, I provide treatment grounded in the most effective psychological approaches available.

I have advanced training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for OCD, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E). My approach is practical, collaborative, and individualized. Together, we work to reduce symptoms while building a life that feels meaningful, flexible, and aligned with your values.

In addition to providing psychotherapy, I have extensive experience training clinicians, supporting quality improvement initiatives, and implementing evidence-based practices within community mental health and integrated healthcare settings. I am also a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), an international organization committed to excellence in Motivational Interviewing practice and training. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to delivering treatment that is both scientifically grounded and genuinely responsive to the needs of the individuals I serve.

As a therapist, I recognize that culture, identity, family experiences, discrimination, and systemic barriers can profoundly shape mental health. I strive to create an affirming and culturally responsive environment where people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and individuals from historically marginalized communities feel respected, understood, and supported. My goal is not only to help clients reduce symptoms, but also to create a space where they can show up authentically and work toward the life they want to build.

Clients often describe me as warm, direct, approachable, and engaged. I believe therapy should be both compassionate and effective. Healing is not about becoming a different person or never experiencing distress; it is about learning how to respond differently to fear, uncertainty, and self-doubt so that they no longer control your life.

If you are looking for an OCD therapist, ERP therapist, eating disorder therapist, or ARFID specialist in New York, New Jersey, or Massachusetts, I would be honored to support you in your recovery journey.
