Ricardo Despradel-Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC-D,LPC) in New York, New Jersey & Massachusetts

I am a Gay cis-male Latino licensed mental health counselor with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field and specializing in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Eating Disorders, Tics/ Tourette’s Syndrome and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). I provide evidence-based telehealth therapy to adults throughout New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.

My practice is dedicated to helping individuals break free from the cycles of fear, avoidance, compulsions, and self-criticism that often accompany OCD and eating disorders. Taking a step forward towards recovery can be very scary and intimidating, but you don’t have to face these monsters alone. My goal is to not only help you reduce/eliminate symptoms but also improve your quality of life and move closer to becoming the person you want to be.

As a therapist, I recognize that culture, identity, family experiences, discrimination, and systemic barriers can profoundly shape mental health. I strive to create an affirming and culturally responsive environment where people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and individuals from historically marginalized communities feel respected, understood, and supported.

I have advanced training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for OCD, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E). My approach is practical, collaborative, and individualized. Together, we work to reduce symptoms while building a life that feels meaningful, flexible, and aligned with your values.

In addition to providing psychotherapy, I have extensive experience training clinicians, supporting quality improvement initiatives, and implementing evidence-based practices within community mental health and integrated healthcare settings. I am also a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), an international organization committed to excellence in Motivational Interviewing practice and training. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to delivering treatment that is both scientifically grounded and genuinely responsive to the needs of the individuals I serve.

Clients often describe me as warm, funny, direct and approachable. Our sessions will balance creating a warm and compassionate space but also challenging and empowering. Every step forward will prove to yourself that you are stronger than your fears want you to believe.

I believe therapy should be both compassionate and effective. Healing is not about becoming a different person or never experiencing distress; it is about learning how to respond differently to fear, uncertainty, and self-doubt so that they no longer control your life.

If you are looking for an OCD therapist, ERP therapist, eating disorder therapist, or ARFID specialist in New York, New Jersey, or Massachusetts, I would be honored to support you in your recovery journey.
