Understanding who you are is rarely a single moment. For many LGBTQIA+ people, it unfolds over years: noticing, questioning, naming, revising, and growing into a fuller sense of self. That process can be exciting and freeing. It can also feel confusing, lonely, or heavy, especially when the people and systems around you haven't made room for it.
Therapy offers a dedicated space to explore your sexual orientation, gender identity, relationships, and values without pressure to reach a conclusion or adopt a label before you're ready. My role is to support your process with curiosity and care, helping you clarify what feels true for you and build confidence in living it.
Navigating the world as a queer person
Self-understanding is one part of the journey. The other is moving through a world that doesn't always reflect or protect you. That might mean deciding how open to be at work, managing relationships with family, finding community, dating, or carrying the daily effort of reading every new room.
Together, we work on the practical and emotional sides of that experience: building resilience, setting boundaries, strengthening your support network, and reducing the toll that stigma and constant vigilance can take on your mental health. Your identity is never the problem to be solved. It is the foundation we build from.
What LGBTQIA+ clients bring to therapy
Some clients come specifically to explore identity or to find support through a period of change. Others come for anxiety, OCD, eating concerns, or substance use and want a therapist who understands the full context of their lives.
Identity exploration & coming out
Making sense of sexual orientation or gender identity at your own pace, and deciding if, when, and how to share it.
Gender identity & transition
Support for trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive clients navigating social, medical, or legal transition, dysphoria, and disclosure.
Minority stress & burnout
The cumulative toll of discrimination, hypervigilance, code-switching, and concealment in workplaces, schools, and families.
Family & religious conflict
Strained or estranged family relationships, rejection, and the aftermath of faith communities that did not affirm you.
Relationships & intimacy
Dating, partnership, and relationship structures, approached without assuming heteronormative or monogamous defaults.
Anxiety, OCD & eating concerns
Specialized, evidence-based treatment for conditions that occur at elevated rates in LGBTQIA+ communities.
Substance use
Nonjudgmental support for changing alcohol or drug use, including patterns connected to nightlife, community, and coping.
Queer & trans BIPOC experience
Navigating racism within LGBTQIA+ spaces and homophobia or transphobia within cultural communities, often at the same time.
An affirming approach grounded in evidence
Affirming therapy means more than being "LGBTQ-friendly." It means understanding the research on minority stress: the well-documented finding that stigma, discrimination, and the effort of concealment contribute to higher rates of anxiety, depression, and substance use among LGBTQIA+ people. Distress is understood in that context, not located inside your identity.
How I work
- Collaborative assessment. We discuss what brings you in, your goals, your support system, and the parts of your identity and history that matter to treatment.
- Evidence-based methods. Depending on your needs, treatment may draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, CBT-E or CBT-AR for eating concerns, Prolonged Exposure for trauma, and Motivational Interviewing for ambivalence and substance use.
- Addressing minority stress directly. We examine internalized stigma, rejection sensitivity, and concealment patterns, and build ways of responding that protect your wellbeing.
- Measurable progress. We review progress regularly so you can see what is changing and adjust course when needed.

What is LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy?
Affirming therapy treats all sexual orientations and gender identities as valid and healthy. The therapist understands LGBTQIA+ experiences, uses your name and pronouns, and recognizes how stigma and discrimination affect mental health, without assuming your identity is the source of your difficulties.
Do I need to be in therapy for identity-related reasons?
No. Many clients seek treatment for anxiety, OCD, eating concerns, trauma, or substance use and simply want a therapist who won't misunderstand or pathologize their identity. Identity becomes part of the conversation only as much as you want it to be.
Do you take insurance?
Yes. I am in-network with most commercial insurance plans in Massachusetts and will verify your benefits before we begin. For clients insured through MassHealth, I can provide referrals to affirming providers who accept those plans.
Do you work with trans and nonbinary clients?
Yes. I work with trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive clients on transition-related concerns, dysphoria, disclosure, relationships, and any other goals they bring to therapy.
I'm questioning and not sure how I identify. Is therapy right for me?
Yes. Therapy can be a private space to explore without pressure to arrive at a label. There is no timeline and no expected outcome. The goal is clarity and self-acceptance on your terms.
Do you work with LGBTQIA+ teens?
Yes. I work with adolescents and adults. With teens, I discuss confidentiality and family involvement openly at the start so everyone understands how sessions will work.
Do I need to live in Boston?
No. Telehealth sessions are available to anyone physically located in Massachusetts at the time of the session, as well as in other states where I hold a license.
